In February 2010 I was commissioned to illustrate one of the legends of Maui for Wellington’s brand new arts and culture magazine, FishHead. This legend has particular meaning for the magazine as it is the basis for FishHead’s name.
According to Māori mythology, Maui is credited with fishing up a large fish (ika). This became what we know today as the North Island of New Zealand or Te Ika a Maui.
