Ancient Mountain City

The goal of these concepts was to depict an entrance to a city inside of a mountain. The use of colour quickly portrays feeling and mood as well as an idea of the season. Referencing real world examples, these environments reflect a sense of culture and become believable.

Ancient Mountain City V1

For the first piece I looked at the ancient culture of the Nabataeans, found most notably in the carved tombs in Petra, Jordan. The way they carved into the rock to create structure made perfect sense here.

The second piece continued my exploration of colour and geometrical shapes in the architecture.

Ancient Mountain City V3

For the last piece I explored the geometrical rock formations found on the Isle of Staffa. This gives a logical explanation as to how this culture adopted geometrical shapes and used them in their architecture. It also creates a barren feel to the environment which echoes the idea of a lost civilization.
